Has anyone had a go at capturing the meteors this weekend? Not captured anything so far, apart from stars

Above - there is a very very faint trail from the top right corner to the centre; possibly my first and last meteor out of around 30 one minute shots.

No, it's not a meteor, but a passing aircraft.

Good on yer for trying though!

I'm lucky enough to have a huge bedroom window facing in the right direction. I spotted 2 sometime around 2-30am. I never tried getting any shots though. I've seen them in the past and never been especially overwhelmed with excitement about them. Just quick, short, thin streaks of light (falling stars) coming at random and never managed to see more than one at a time.

a lot depends on how you shoot them and if you can get to dark skies or not.
the zenith of activity is supposedly tonight with around 100 or so meteors / hr.
a good technique is to aim the camera towards the centre of the 'storm', which by the planetarium software i've got on my palm suggests SSE at an altitdue of 30 deg (3 clenched fists at arms length above the horizon) at about midnight tonight, and take a l-o-n-g exposure. in theory you should get a nice radiated pattern. have never managed to recreate this mind you!

ian, can't see the fine detail in your photo, but the streak may also have been a satellite. if there's pulses on it, then those'll be the strobes from the plane wings / fuselage.

I did see a number of shooting stars with the naked eye, but - you guessed it - not when the camera's shutter was open!

Shooting was a bit tedious as I had long exposure noise reduction on, so the shutter is open for 60 seconds and then the camera does a dark frame exposure for another 60 seconds. I don't have a remote release so using Bulb setting wasn't possible.

The info I found said to point high to the east, with Mars (very clear) to the lower right of the frame and that the night of 12/13th August was the peak night. I stayed up until 4:30AM

I hadn't thought of satellites - good point!

Just as I packed up early this morning (in my back garden) I thought this looked rather nice

It's the kitchen window from outside

Ian - You may not have captured any meteors but if I am not mistaken you have got a good shot of the Pleiades (Hen & Chickens or Seven Sisters as they are sometimes known), just above center in you shots and coloured blue. This group is very close to the constellation of Perseus.

Hehe - they are cheapo ones from Dunelm Mill Good value, mind you!

I should have leveled them before taking the shot

Nice capture of a spider as well! (left hand side)

Seriously though, this is a nice capture, lovely tones.

Ours were from Chiltern Mills, a give away price. Made a whole load for our conservatory last year and used up what was left on the kitchen. Same colour too as yours. I think they were called light oak - has a very slight texture.

                            Hello all!

Man that meteor shower would have been been beautiful if the worst storm of the year would not have passed through. We were without power for hours! Oh well maybe next time!

A nice picture of the window, I don't know why but I do like that picture, I think it is the 'that looks good' photograph it and see what comes up, spur of the moment thing, always produce the best pictures.

As for the Pleiades shot, the redish dot just below that is Mars. I had a good look at it last night through my binoculars as I stood up on Devils Dyke for hours on end last night/this morning!
