  • Zen Vision M

The, rather generous, missus has treated me to an early birthday pressie.

    A Zen Vision 'M' 60GB MP3 player.

I have just read the instructions, and it appears that you are able to link it directly to the digital camera to download the photos. What a bonus! I have yet to try it, as I am currently downloading all the music to it. But if it works ok, it should take a lot of hassle out of worrying that I have enough memory with me.

Anyone else use one? I know some on this forum use the iPod in a similar fashion.

Hi Ben, I've used an iPod. However I was less than satisfied with its performance for photo backup/storage. Firstly its use was restricted to certain cameras only. Needless to say mine was not one. Secondly you needed to have an usb adaptor so you could plug a camera into. Then as my camera would not work with it, I had to transfer the SD card only from my camera to my wifes Lumix fx01 which did work with the adaptor. Thirdly, it took around 20-25mins to download a 1GB card. Mine showed up and could be viewed, but my wifes did not show up and therefore could not be viewed. As a result you were sometimes unsure you had got the whole download. Fourthly the download was very power hungry and during a download the battery level dropped dramatically. There was a possibility that the battery would run out before the download completed. Finally, the picture quality was not brilliant esp with the relatively small screen.

As a result of this I decided that I'd never go through all that hassle again and have now invested in an Epson P-3000, which, it must be said is brilliant. No download probs, takes SD and CF cards, downloads quickly, a great screen, and it holds MP3's as well as video. It will run slideshows too. They are not cheap, but are a much better product for photographers IMO.
