  • Nostalgia strikes again

We went to Calk Abbey Derbyshire today (Sunday) for lunch, and there was this very rare classic car, there is about 120 left in the UK in varying degrees of health mostly poor.

It had been lovingly restored and looked brand new everything was to the original trim and colour.
I chatted to the owner who told me it had taken five years to do.

Certainly looks like he made a nice job. I wonder if that is the original colours ?

Yes, those are the original colors, as is the new upholsterey and everything, under the bonnet was equally impressive. I remember seeing them about as a child in the 50's .
The car was made by Austin with the American market in mind, The owner told me they sold 95,000 in the US, 5,000 in the UK and 3,000 in the rest of the world. Modest by todays standards but the US sales were not bad for the period.

Wow, as you say 95,000 to a US market in that era is pretty good going. I guess they would have had some stiff opposition in those days from quite a number of US firms and makes.

Nice colours though .... that interior wouldn't last long with my grand-daughter and her sticky fingers !!
