  • New Laptop

My new laptop was delivered Tuesday a "Dell Inspiron 9400"
Not the prettiest laptop in the world, but it appears to be solid and well built.
It was ordered with a Centrino T2350 processor but because of either a mistake or stock shortages a T2450 has been fitted.
    The 2350 is a duo 1.86 GHz the 2450 a duo 2 GHz.
Anyone know which is the best of the two? figures would indicate the latter but you may know different.

I ordered it with XP but am in the process of creating separate partitions and making the machine duel boot with Vista.

    Congrats on the new machine

These are the newer Intel processors and they use these four digit product codes preceeded by a letter, such as T or E depending on what they're designed for. As far as price and speed are concerned, the higher numbers in the sequential series' are the most expensive and benefit from the higher clock speeds / performance potential, but their architectures are the same, so they're invariably going to be the better ones to go for.

I'm due to take delivery of a new desktop PC tomorrow and it's fitted with an Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 processor which clocks at 2x 2.2 GHz, although it can apparently be overclocked without much effort or extra voltage to over 3 GHz. Anyway, the model down from the E6420 is the 6320, which clocks at 1.8Ghz, but which requires far more voltage and effort to overclock by any significant margin, despite the fact that it's fundamentally similar in architecture to the 6420. I'm sure that the differences will apply to your Centrino versions too.
