Creative Imagery from Eric Gustafson - something I came across yesterday when idly surfing. I also liked the presentation with the background music ... took my mind off the unpredictable weather for a while.
Go HERE .... I especially like the shot of the old lady with the zimmer, feeding the pigeons (2003 gallery).

Is that what Creative Imagery is. Well I guess I should go back and have a look at the images in my recycle bin. I found some good work there but to be honest there were a lot I felt were absolute rubbish. One in particular, the little girl on a train. Also I think he needs to get a new tripod. One of the legs on his is much shorter than the others. Just the opinion of an old faddy daddy that don't appreciate art.

I luv it when yer goat's been got, Ron.
I s'pose it's one of those sites that I just happened to come across when I was having a 'deep' phase or summick along those lines. I mean ..... it's better than a poke in the eye with a stick, innit?
I still like the old biddy slinging peanuts for the pigeons though.

I'd like to know what your other half made of that site. Or is that not printable.
Well I enjoyed the photographs Pol, so thanks for bringing them to our attention. I think its important that we see the work of photographers such as this. We don't have to like it all, though in this case there is some aspirational stuff. One thing you can't say and that is its boring and mundane, much is dynamic and thoughtful and I forone have bookmarked his site.
As for not keeping the camera straight I took around 180 shots on a job last week and I'll bet 3/4 of them had the camera rotated a little. It adds interest and dynamism to what may otherwise be a run of the mill and boring shot, not to mention that sometimes you just can't frame a shot correctly when its level

Well, I have said before on here Ron, and I'll say it again. I am not an arty sort either. The tate gallery to me, is more of a recycling centre
However, I love some of the shots on there, I didnt see too many which I didnt like! I reckon you should revisit and reconsider, I cant believe you didnt like them!

He likes it for the same reasons as me ... because it's individual, creative and imaginative and is also a pleasant, relaxing experience to browse. It's not all about straightening horizons, histograms, burned out highlights etc .. more about 'watching clouds go by' and letting the mind wander, day-dreaming, snatches of memories of what he saw and felt.
We also agreed it had all been assembled and presented on a very pleasant website.... and that he was brave and bold for sharing it.
I can't do that sort of thing myself and I think I'd be too timid to show my efforts if I ever tried. It's the sort of 'dreamlike' imagery and sound that passes through my mind when I'm flat out on the garden hammock and 'sky-gazing' though.

Sorry Stephen, this Also I think he needs to get a new tripod. One of the legs on his is much shorter than the others. Just the opinion of an old faddy daddy that don't appreciate art. Was just a little joke. I'm well aware that rotating the camera sometimes adds to the picture. I will have another look at the site, but standby my first impressions that many are of the type I would bin. Good job we all have different views of other peoples work, art is for the art lovers, and I'm not one of that clan. I often think, when I see this sort of work, I too could have been famous if only I had different standards.

Don't you believe it Ron. I could have written your reply! They are exactly my feelings. It did my head in

Thanks Audrey your a friend for life. Sometimes I do find it all a bit gimmicky. Still trying to work out why a shot of the girl on a train was taken in such a way. Oh I get it now he was photographing an empty seat. Now that's creative.
Thanks Pol.......it's a great site featuring some outstanding images. There's a depth and soul to the work which seperates it from the humdrum, "reference-shot" mediocrity we see so much of these days, and as a creative photographer I couldn't help but appreciate it.
Photography isn't just about recording the subject matter in an anonymous, clinical fashion...............it's about the photographer putting something of himself (or herself) into the shot to make it unique and compelling. Creativity doesn't just apply to art, it applies to any kind of photography where the end-user demands something more than just a frozen moment in time.......and this guy achieves that perfectly.
Hi Pol,
Thanks for the link, there is some creative stuff on the site, I agree the old lady image is great, she obviously spotted the camera/photographer, love the expression, choice thoughts there me thinks.
I've just been back for another look. Having read some of the comments on here I though I must be missing something. How can any one call this creative photography? Gallery 2006 Miss Betty III. God I've seen it all now. Even half her face is blurred, composition diabolical and Oh he's still not repaired that tripod.

Then go back and take yet another look. If you look at it properly you'll see that he calls it "Creative Imagery" ..... that's "Imagery" .......... of which photography is just a part, but not the whole.
