I justed discovered this online store http://calemet.co.uk/index.php

The goods come from Asia etc because of this I emailed them concerning HM Customs Duty/VAT and this was their reply:

"Dear himmelblau,

If you are ordering from the European Union you will not have to pay taxes."

Has anyone one used them?

Hi Brian,

I think what they say is that they don't have to pay tax on the goods they sell to you, so their prices can be lower. However, any inference that the customer in the EU has no responsibility for paying import duties and VAT is, I'm 99.99% sure, untrue.

At the very least, UK VAT will add 17.5% and there could be additional import rates on top of that, so some prices could be almost a third higher if you are not careful.

On top of that, many of these goods will have no UK warranty or after-sales support.

For some, these risks are worthwhile, but you should consider the pros and cons very carefully.
