  • Peregrine Webcam

I know there are a few bird fans here, like Pol, and thought this may be of interest.

It's a live (Dutch) webcam in a Peregrine nestbox.

I've just been watching the young being fed.

I'm not really a birder but it is hard not to be moved while watching. It's lovely also to see the view out from the take off landing area. Looking forward to catching a feeding session.

Mick I have been keeping my eye on this since you posted. Why does Mum always allow another falcon rob her of the food while she is feeding the youngsters?

Hi Tom, to be quite honest since I posted this I have not seen either of the parents at all and I looked all night last night till 11 o'clock. Surely they don't leave them on their own all night.

I went to bed wondering if they had been deserted.

I had a look this morning, but nothing.

Have you seen anything today as I've only just come online.

            Re: Peregrine Webcam

Mick so far today the mother has been to feed them at least twice. Both times another falcon watches from the grill and then moves in and swipes the food but it seems to wait long enough for the chicks to get some sort of feed.
When the robber takes the food the mum just flies off. Excellent stuff.
The mum first brought a bird for their dinner and later brought what seemed to be a rat.
            Kind of becomes compulsive viewing.

Thank's Tom that's made my day.

Still don't understand why they are left alone at night, even though they huddle together it must be cold up there.

Below the main video screen there is a clickable still of the rogue falcon waiting to move in and steal the food. Could that be the old man?

                  Re: Peregrine Webcam

It is. I was going to say when you said ''another falcon taking the food'' or similar, is it the other parent bird?

Looks like another cold and lonely night.

There is a nesting pair near to me where I have a hide to photograph buzzards etc. Last Saturday I watched the Peregrine chasing a Raven for about 1/2 an hour. It ended up with the Raven chasing the Peregrine. They never actually touched each other but it was very entertaining.

They were within 20 yards at times but of course I had no camera with me.

                    Mick; Really Bad News
I have a feeling the chicks have been killed by one of the adult falcons. Before I went out for an hour (4.40 today) they appeared ok but when I came back whats left of the chicks was left on the grill. An adult had been hanging around a lot during the day and I have a feeling he/she or some other scavanger may have moved in and got them. I'm gutted. I was really into this and had visions of seeing them making their first attempt at flight.

                      Me too.

I'd also noticed the adult hanging about on the grid and was hoping it might have been on guard to protect the chicks.

In some ways not surprising Pol as they were pretty well neglected by the parents. I saw them get a good meal early this morning but nothing since. I feel also that they were on their own throughout the night, so really they were there for the taking.

I saw them being fed this morning too. I'd only just gone online again a few minutes ago and saw your posting - had a look and saw the sad ending.

                          C'est la vie, eh.

I'm glad I didn't see the 'attack' though!

I'm clutching at straws here Pol and Mick; is it at all possible that they may have repositioned themselves out of camera range and that the remnants on the grid may just be some food dropped off. Sometimes I still hear the odd squeek.

Well I've just read this and had a look and I think they are still there.

If you turn up the volume you can hear them.

They must be out of sight of the camera.

Also if you r/click the outside view and click full screen there is an adult there.
