The Epson P-3000 portable hard disk drive and viewer is a showcase for Epson display technology, featuring a four colour (RGB and emerald green dots) Photo Fine Ultra screen that can do Adobe RGB justice. We've used one for several months and now you can read our verdict in our fully illustrated review of a product we didn't want to give back to the manufacturer! But was it a perfect product?
got one to replace the P2000 which was too slow for 5d files.
As with the P2000 it is fantastic. I not only use it for photographs but also for videos whilst on business travel (which I do alot of). At the moment the viewer is home to
casion royale,
father ted (allseries 1)
Two series of spooks
XMen 3
All of Band of brothers
Two series of Alan partridge
The screen is superb, the sound excellent (with earphones). Battery life approx 3 hours of video playback. It is chunky but much much much smaller and lighter than a laptop and easy to setup on planes and trains.

Hi Josh, thanks for the feedback. I recall that Peter has a P-2000; in fact I think several forum people have them. The P-3000 is a classy piece of kit, but I'm sure it could be made smaller and, especially, more slim, and with a bigger storage capacity for the same or less money. That said (and as my review said!) it's a pretty unique product.
Yes Ian spot on I do have a P2000. I do not use it that much because I do not travel much. Having said that I would not be without it. I have taken it away twice once to a GP and last year to Goodwood. I did have a flashtrax but the Epson knocks spots off it. I also found it great for video. The size of the unit is not a problem for me.

Hi Peter, I'm so pleased you have one of these devices already. This is because you won't be too upset when I win it This P3000 has my name on it
Great review. The nature of my budget has meant that I've never looked into these devices before (being gadget-mad, I'm sure I'd savage the credit card just to get one ), so I have no comparison with any other similar device to compare it too.
Looks very nice, though.
(Hope my email address went through to the competition okay... )

Try removing the battery and leaving it for a while. Could the battery be flat? Try using the mains AC adapter.
Was it dropped while switched on? If not, there is a good chance the hard drive internally will be intact as the delicate read/write heads are parked in a protected position when switched off.

A big tip for P-3000 and P-5000 users if you shoot RAW and JPEG at the same time. The unit takes much much longer at thumbnailing RAW files and so browsing can be very slow. But if you use the sort by file type option, JPEGs are prioritised and things zip along nicely.
