  • Making Gin

My Daughter Kirsty gave us a 'Make your own Gin day' as a christmas present.
So we went to Adnams Brewery and Distillery in Southwold to make our own Gin.

I could have entered this in the 'Abstract' Salon

But the object was to make GIN.
We did so by dropping lots of Juniper berries and other botanical bits of our own choice into these little copper stills
We then poured in a bottle of Vodka before turning on the heat.

The vodka absorbs lots of oils and flavours from the botanicals, boils away and then condenses again at 80 proof with all those oils.
RO water is then added to bring it down to 45 degrees proof before being rebottled as GIN

    That was interesting, Rab.

Never knew about this. All three shots are good.

    Was the Gin good ?

      Re: Making Gin

It was a very interesting afternoon.
Can't comment on the gin yet - we have to leave it for a minimum of two weeks to allow all the botanicals to impart their full flavour. But the base vodka was good.
