The latest shot from David Nightingale at Chromasia is interesting and in stark comparison to one I took a few weeks ago. He has just upgraded too from a 20D to a 5D and seems to be relishing the ability to use his 17-40 to its potential. His latest shot was obviously taken from the beach looking southwards whilst mine was from the promenade looking north.

Stephen,
I like your photo better. Don't take it as a compliment. Take it as true personal judgment according to my own judging criteria.
I will not write an analysis here for the reasons why.
I am as truthful as I can be.

George
Well thanks George, though I reallywas not expecting anyone to say one was better than the other. It was I thought simply an interesting comparison of a similar scene.
Its always good on his site to read the comments made by David Nightingale on his images and the subsequent comments by others. In this instance he was moaning about the poor conditions wishing that spring and summer would come.
If you have not seen his work before, I can highly recommend you work your way back through his archive. Some you will not like, I don't, but others you will. Over the last year and more I have been truly inspired by some of his work. Its interesting to see also how his own style has changed over time.

Stephen,
What's the comparison for, if there is no preference of one over another
OK, I understood that the post was not to compare the two photos, but to show a photo somehow similar to another in terms of theme/scenery photographed
I saw other of his photos just a while ago for first time.
As it is normal some I liked and some not so much which is normal since a photographer cannot possibly satisfy all of the tastes of a single person or he cannot have completely identical style with someone else.
Indeed styles adapt as time necessities change.
Not got time to read all the above, but did notice his this morning and thought I remembered liking yours better. Now you show it Stephen, I definitely do.
Even though I am still new hope you do not mind me jumping in. I like yours far better Stephen, I did not realy care for the other.
But I can see what you were trying for
same area, scene
but
two different perspectives,
which realy is what makes us interesting
In all honesty I can't see any way you can compare these two totally different scenes. Apart from them both having the same tower, they were taken under completely different weather conditions and from different angles. Each has it's own particular story to tell. Or have I missed the point and that is what we are comparing?
