  • Re Salon Competition and other musings

Haven't taken anything for this yet - so where are the chaps who were hanging from the trees whilst cutting them back near the church that I saw just after Christmas? (and of course, I didn't have my camera with me - I know, I've been told before and have now bought a bigger handbag )

Which leads me to my point.... queueing along the A43 this morning towards Northampton, watching the emergency services screaming past along the other carriageway.

Five minutes later, they returned so the two lanes of traffic parted like the Red Sea to let them through to the poor so and sos ahead.

As I sat there at the side of the road, the Air Traffic Ambulance landed in the field next to me, level with my car.

I definitely wouldn't make a news photographer, decided not to take them as they scrambled out - by this time, I'd seen the carnage ahead so decided it might not be in the best possible taste.

However, what do the rest of you think?

I wouldn't be likely to take shots of the scene of a serious accident - possibly because I've been involved in a couple of very serious accidents myself so I'd rather not even look at the aftermath of such a scene, let alone take photos of it.

There's also the possibility of getting in the way of emergency services. On the other hand, there's also the off-chance any photos you decided to take just may prove useful to one of the drivers involved (insurance purposes) or the Police - though they'd always prefer to use their own specific/authorised photographers for documenting any evidence.

As a matter of interest click here to read about what happened to a news photographer who was going about his job in a proper manner, alongside a news reporter.

So, on balance and as a passer-by and member of the general public, I'd tend to steer clear and move along without taking pictures....... though I have to admit there might be situations when I would be tempted. I might have taken shots of the air ambulance landing in the field though - if I could've got snapshots from inside the car.
