  • Artist's Corner

The Hartford Courant has an Artist's Corner in the paper each Sunday. The vast majority of the pieces published are paintings but once in a while a photo gets picked.

If you're not living on the edge you're taking up too much room.

Congratulations Pat. You certainly don't let grass grow under your feet! Keep up the good work and keep us informed of your various hobbies.

      Thanks Autumn!

A local museum just agreed to sell my photo and pencil drawing greeting cards in their gift shop. If I ever retire maybe I can expand that sort of thing.

I've just started making my own picture frames to frame both drawings and photos that I'll be selling at a craft fair a week from tomorrow in Vermont.

Good for you - I'm still waiting to retire too and, after a summer break, am back on the craft fair circuit tomorrow in the run up to Christmas with my greetings cards and mobile portrait studio.
        Good luck!

How does a mobile portrait studio work? Does it take up a lot of room in your display? Best of luck on the circuit.

Here's a quick iPhone shot of a few of the frames I've been making. I'm taking planks of roughsawn cedar and ripping them with a radial arm saw. Then I use a dado blade to cut the channels before cutting the corners by hand with a miter box. I then glue the corners and insert small wooden dowels to give them added strength. The panes of glass are available at my local hardware store for between three and six dollars depending on size. The cost of the wood in each frame is about a dollar.
