Upgraded about a week ago and love it. I now have 5x optical lens and Cinematic mode for videos. This model is good enought to use for Hollywood movies. And you can make phone calls with it too!
The iPhone was never any good for macro shots but that has changed .

Hi Ian! The Huawei was way ahead of its time. Sales aren't permitted in the US. Here's a shot of one of my drawing pencils using the macro feature
My 15 Pro Max also has the 5x lens. This is a handheld shot(cropped) from the night before last.
As I recall, you were taking the Duolingo French course for a long time. Did it lead to the point where you could carry on a conversation in French? We're taking a ski trip to the Dolomites in January and I'm on Day 58 of Duolingo Italian. My 8 year grandson decided on his own to study German and has been at it for 150 straight days. My experience with foreign languages hasn't been good because people tend to speak quickly and I can't follow.the conversation. I have a vocabulary in German of about a thousand words and can sometimes read successfully but if I ask a question, I can never understand the answers.

Nice photos, Pat. Here's a 5x tele shot from the Huawei P30 Pro (which was one of the last models to be sold in the US):
And the closest I can get to a Sharpie nib!
Duo Lingo - I'm a bad student! I got frustrated with it. Julia loves it though. I don't think you're guaranteed to be conversationally fluent with it though.
I'm sticking with Duolingo but I have the same problem with Italian that I do with German. Native speakers talk to fast for me to process what they're saying. I can ask questions but rarely understand the answers. I have better luck deciphering what I read.

Smartphone cameras have come a long way in recent years, and they are now capable of taking high-quality photos and videos. Some smartphones even have features that are specifically designed for macro photography, which is the photography of small objects.
