  • Re: Conversion of Kodak .pcd to .jpeg

    Hi,

I have discovered a couple of old Kodak .pcd disks containing a number of photos that I wish to import into Aperture. Aperture does not recognise .pcd, so I wondered if someone could recommend how I might do it.

      Hi Pops,

Thanks for the link, but my Mac came up with a warning about this website, so hesitate to visit it. Do you know anything about the website?

Do you have Photoshop? You should be able to open Photo CD files natively within Photoshop.

I don't think PS supports PCD files in the later versions.

There's a link here to what may be a useful answer in the Adobe community discussions.

          Hope that helps.

            Hi,

Thanks for the input. No I do not use Photoshop, as I indicated in my Thread, I use Aperture. I have read the Adobe link, but found it a bit bewildering and I certainly do not want to spend a lot of money to sort it. There does not seem to be a simple solution.

I don't consider Aperture (or Lightroom) as a replacement for Photoshop - they are complementary.

Do you have a Windows compatibility option? The Windows prog Irfanview (free) will probably do the job.

                Hi Ian,

Sorry, if I gave the impression that Aperture was a replacement for Photoshop, but I do not recall saying that. I do use Aperture and cannot afford Photoshop. Also no I do not have a Windows alternative, as I use Mac.

Apologies Bill - I think this is just one of those threads that goes a bit loopy despite the best intentions of all and sundry

If you have a recent Mac with an Intel processor you can run Windows alongside Mac OS; that was a possibility I was wondering if you had.

If you are desperate, can you send me the shots and I will convert them for you? I have recently converted some PCD shots of my own.

I just had a look on the Irfanview FAQ page and apparently it can be used on a Mac. The Q and A says

Q: Can I use IrfanView on Mac?

A: Yes, probably. There is no native-Mac version of IrfanView. However, you can use IrfanView in conjunction with Mac program like WineBottler/DARWINE. Take the ZIP version of IrfanView and unzip it or copy your existing Windows IrfanView folder to Mac. This is easier because the installer may need additional Windows DLLs to run.

Maybe that would be another option worth investigating?
