Did anyone see last night's documentary on Vivian Maier?
She was an amateur photographer living in Chicago and working as a nanny. Her remarkable work was only discovered and recognised shortly before she died after several storage units of her belongings, including thousands of her photographs, were auctioned off because she was unable to pay for the storage fees any more (she was in hospital after a fall).
In fact much of her work remained in undeveloped film from her Rolleiflex TLR. But judging by a fairly large selection of images shown last night she had an awesome eye for a picture - mainly photographing strangers in the street during the 60s and early 70s.
UK residents can watch the programme on BBC iPlayer for a limited period:
It's well worth watching!
