I would quite like to take my photography further and earn some pocket money from it, by doing such things as banquet photography or covering events etc. I did take some shots a while back for a friends Web Site (he performs magic at weddings, corporate events etc), the shots worked out well and he was pleased and used quite a few. I did get approached by the official photographer at the wedding where the shots were taken who asked me if I fancied doing some work for them, taking the evening shots at banquets, I declined as I did not feel good enough, I have kicked myself a few times since.
Weddings don't really appeal as I just don't want to have the chance of ruining someone's big day, I have turned a couple of friends down for this very reason.
I am hoping to do a photography course at some point this year with a view to do some of the above, what type of course should I look at doing,or is it better to approach a local established photographer and ask about becoming a part time assistant ? If the later, is it wise to ask for payment, travelling expenses or just do it for the experience until good enough to earn from it?
