        Re: My Exhibition

        Hi David,

I can view it all with Internet Explorer.

Thanks for sharing your latest project with us. It's a thought provoking, coherent body of work which often forced a wry smile from me. Some, such as the Steel Tree, made me laugh out loud, as much for it being ridiculous as being funny. I was amazed at how often you managed such creative compositions from the subject matter and you hit the point, bang on, every time. The only thing missing is "CCTV Tree."

The selected quotes were also revealing. The one by Ronald Reagan unfortunately reflects a large body of political thinking and is a self-indictment of the man, "Trees, how many of 'em do we need to look at?" Joni Mitchell summed up his attitude rather succinctly,

        "They took all the trees
Put 'em in a tree museum
        And they charged the people
A dollar and a half just to see 'em"

As I say, great project and I hope you enjoy a successful exhibition. I also think it would make a great subject for a book.

The project features 36 photographs of urban trees and it's supposed to be a wry look at the trees we see dotted around our cities like fig leaves hiding the shame of bland redevelopment.

                Thanks for looking

"Suburbia – a place where the developer bulldozes out the trees, then names the streets after them".

I love the way you always manage to present an alternative view of everyday things (and people) we take for granted, people, places and objects, views we miss most of the time - then you come along and present your own weird, wonderful and very thought provoking interpretations.

This latest collection is no exception, it's brilliant!

It's a little known fact that when man has been wiped out, or probably wiped himself out and ruined the planet, trees will reclaim it for themselves. The Oak at the bottom of our garden is making a very good start, as is the Sycamore and wild plum. The Sycamore is my best friend. There are many names written in its branches and it talks to me.

Keep going because I look forward to seeing your next project. In the meantime I'll aim to avoid causing any tree from having to defend itself.

And I think the first tree I ever knew the species of was the sycamore in the street outside the house I grew up in. The house is still there, but the tree's long gone.
I'd never accuse you of being any more cynical than I am.

The Sycamore just behind our fence was small and dying when we moved here. Some oik had forgotten to remove the cage/stake gizmo that supported it when it was planted and the wire had cut into the trunk and was embedded and strangling it. The tree was dying quite rapidly so I called the council highways dept and they came out pronto to rescue it. It flourished and grew rapidly ever since. That was 32 years ago and it's a whopper now, beautiful tree. My neighbour curses me for saving it 'cos she hates the way the seeds scatter all over her garden and sprout.

I like the way the Sycamore branches and limbs cross over and form letters. I read them when I'm lying in bed and those are the times the tree, and the people who live in it, talk to me. And no, I'm not a nutter. That Sycamore and me are an item, so there!

Trees aren't allowed to die in Kent, especially the ones on our boundaries. The houses were built on an area that was once a plant nursery so there's a good variety sprouting about the place.

I will resist the urge to sing 'I Talk to the Trees' ;-)

Worth a bump as it has just reached 200 views - well 201 actually.
