  • An island no longer

In normal times this is an island on an arm of a large lake. Last week I was able to walk out to it with only losing my shoe once in the mud. This was because of the draught we are in. Anyway I did it because I could and was rewarded on the far side by a view of dead trees in the water with one of them having a large Heron on one side branch and an Osprey on the other. Took a few photos but a 300 lens just wasn't good enough.

This is what I ended up with.

Maybe you feel the 300mm lens wasn't good enough for shots of those birds but whatever lens you used was certainly good enough for evocative shots.

I love that second shot of the dead tree(s) with the birds.

I'd like to know what those birds are

Of course it's the opposite situation here where we have had the wettest spring and summer on record and many small rivers and ponds that were unusually dry last March are now, if anything overflowing.

Tom identified the birds in the first post. He said they were " a large Heron on one side branch and an Osprey on the other."

This year has been freaky weatherwise, so unstable. I'm just hoping we don't have a very bad, cold winter. That's why we're flogging away in the garden - before the weather closes in on us again.

Amazes me as to how that tree is still standing. I would have thought the water would have rotted the base by now.

Interesting dead tree with two live birds.

Nice capture. I think you and the lens did well.
