  • I Finally Understand

The only thing that kept putting me off Lightroom was my results using the sharpening and noise reduction tool, especially on noisy images.

Now I finally understand the Detail Panel in Lightroom after reading a old article by Jeff Schewe.

It was like a light bulb suddenly clicked on.

Lets face it even ISO 800 on the Olympus E-30 is a little bit noisy even though the noisiest images looks good at web size.

Blue Tit at ISO 800 and a 100% crop where it counts when judging noise, looks like I will be using LR more now with a bit more practice with the detail panel.

    Regards Paul.

There are detail sliders for both sharpening and noise reduction. I, too have only just started using them. I can't even remember if they were featured in LR3.

Yes they were in LR3 Ian, just that the noise reduction slider was improved in LR4 .

I have been using them since LR3 though I suspect like a lot of people including a few so called experts I was not using them correctly until now.
