  • Jubilee celebration photos!

Here in the UK we will start celebrating the 60th year of the reign of Queen Elizabeth, her Diamond Jubilee. There is an extra public holiday so celebrations will run on into next Monday and Tuesday.

I'll be on the look out for Jubilee photo opportunities - maybe some of you are fortunate enough to have a street party planned or some other event. Unfortunately our recent spell of hot and sunny weather has come to an end and it's going to be cooler with rain showers. But that won't stop the cameras clicking I'm sure!.

Of course we're always keen to see photos so if you have any Jubilee shots to share, post them here

Washed out street parties in torrential downpours could provide excellent photographic opportunities to really capture the atmosphere!

Just don't let it happen at ours!

Hear, hear! A full weekend of activities is planned in our village - from a church service on the Green, to a sports day for the kids via 2 discos, a beer festival in the pub car park, the street party (of course) and culminating in a bonfire.

Not the weather we'd hoped for! and I really hope the good weather returns by next Thursday, as I'm shooting a wedding...

Our village has its event tomorrow (today actually, I've just seen the time!), so I hope the BBC weather forecast for this area is correct; it shows Saturday being dull and cloudy but dry, with rain moving in on Sunday. Our event will be held on the village green and the adjacent road will be closed. The theme is "A Royal Day At The Races," with live TV broadcast from Epsom. We will be able to buy race cards and Great Easton Groats with which to bet and there will be prizes for the best dressed race goers (won't be me ) and biggest winners (still won't be me ). There will also be other stalls and activities around the green; my wife will be face painting. Later there will be a Royal Epsom Feast, followed by a live band in the evening.

The challenge for me will be to capture some of the essence and spirit of the occasion in photographs. I still can't decide whether to use the E-3 (more flexible with greater lens range but large and heavy) or the E-PL1 with just a 14-45mm (less flexible but smaller, lighter and more discreet). Perhaps I'll decide in the morning when I see what the weather is actually like!

Nice shots! Wish I could be there to experience it first hand. Over on our side of the pond we're following it very closely.

My youngest daughter lives in London and has been keeping us apprised.

I have two of the same shot here, of a very obliging villager from Kensworth, with her dog:

                        and

One is darker than the other - I would be interested to know which you think is the better one.

My preference Ian is the darker one. I also like the tones more too.

It will be interesting to see how others view it.

Another one for the darker tones...

There's been a scarecrow festival in the village, among other things:

There was also a Golden Wedding party on the Saturday, followed by a Beer & Blues festival at the pub - just finished editing those, but they're not uploaded yet.

Sunday we skipped the church service (which was supposed to have been held on the village Green, but was defeated by the weather) but did visit the photo exhibition - somewhat surprised to see a shot of me in the winning quiz team from 2002!

Monday was totally taken up with 2 discos which I'd helped to organise, and which my partner ran. Great fun for the kids in the afternoon (about 30 attended) and then the evening disco went really well with nearly 80.

Today was our street party - had to laugh when the photographer from the local paper turned up as we were packing away, so I've been asked to send a couple of my shots. (Still beaming - I suggested to a friend that she might like to send some of hers in because they were excellent, but she's said the tog had told her that mine were better than he could take )

Going to skip the bonfire tonight, though - too damp!
