  • Pinterest. Anyone else using it?

My daughter told me about Pinterest.com about six weeks ago and I've posted some of my work there. Not really sure what to make of it but I heard the other day it's now the #3 social network behind Facebook and Twitter. I think the concept is for you to "pin" an item the interests you. Others see the pins and "repin" them. With some skepticism I created a few boards and have seen an increase in views of my commercial work. I even sold a couple pencil sketches last week that I think resulted from views on Pinterest. Here's a link to the "boards" that I created.

    Are any of you participating?

    Hi Pat,

Yes I love Pinterest and have quite a few boards now. I use it as an online scrapbook and for inspiration and ideas for the house and garden but above all else - photography. Here's a link to mine.

You have some great boards Gina! I love looking at other folks photos to get ideas. Thanks for sharing!

I registered on Pinterest a while ago and then got distracted. I must go back and play with it some more

When you get images like this on there, it makes some sense to have a look.

Trouble is there are so many such places

Have created my first board but only using my own photos. I see a number of others have pinned photos from dpnow, which is interesting, but many of these purple are technically breaching copyright. A far as I can see (not looked very hard) there isn't a link back to the original website page, which would definitely be useful.

Update - You can go to the originating page, my bad

The site does link back to the original photo. For example go to this link and then click on the image itself.

I just started following your boards.

Re: Pinterest. Anyone else using it?

The first one I tried just showed the picture by itself but I now see there are usually links to the original page.

I was a little disturbed to find a picture I used in a tutorial article of my daughter, Lara, had been pinned onto someone's board called 'family'... but it seemed harmless enough as there were dozens of photos of different people and children.

Thanks for following, Pat - I have done the same

It doesn't look like there is any way of deleting a follower - which I think is pretty bad. I have one follower who is clearly promoting a weight loss product and he/she has pinned hundreds of photos of fit young people to obviously coerce overweight people to consider the product. This is spam and I don't want to be associated with it.

I've never run into that and hope I don't. I did find a way to report objectionable pins.
