  • Ebay problem

Has anybody here had ebay problems. I never had until two days ago.
I sold an item which was promptly paid for, I sent immediately and the customer received and posted positive response. Then two days ago someone with a different user name contacted me through ebay asking why they had not received the item. I ignored the message then received a second asking for the item or a refund, again via the message service on ebay.
Now all messages or questions carry details of the product & number related to the message, but this message did not. I spoke to ebay last night, they say they can't do anything without knowing what the item & number was, so I sent a massage to this person asking what they had thought they had bought and the item number. I received today a communication from them suggesting I was taking the P*.*. and told me what the item was but no item number. It was indeed an item of the same description as the one I sold. I have again spoken to ebay and they say I must ring back this afternoon to a special unit.
I have changed email address, and password relating to ebay as a precaution , but it is a little worrying.

Sounds like someone trying it on. You should report them to eBay (assuming they contacted you via the eBay mail system with a valid eBay ID).

It would be rather worrying if they contacted you via conventional email - how would they have obtained your email address?

I have been in contact with ebay and will be again later today just waiting for a reply from the ghost customer.

Just spent a afternoon talking to a number of eBay personnel, kept being transferred to someone else ended up talking to a guy in the US who couldn't understand why a Britt was through to him, he can't help with UK problems. He was in fact very helpful and did what he could.
It transpires the ghost customer (as I have taken to calling them) did buy a product the same as I sold but from another seller. How the two transaction have got mixed no one could answer.
We will see were this will go I suppose.

Perhaps the ghost buyer was watching your item as well as the one that he bid on and has just got the two items mixed up. I've noticed that in ebay messages your relationship with the other person is shown, if it's from a buyer it will say "Buyer has asked a question" or from a seller "seller has asked a question. If it's not either it will say "ebay member has asked a question".

          Regards,
          Geoff.

The point is on ebay as I understand things, if you are buying, selling, or asking a question, that communication can only be in connection with an item which then quotes the description and its eBay item number. This ghost buyers message did not contain any information, just their user name.

They had not even placed a bid let alone win the item.

            Very strange.

It is possible to contact a member without it being in connection with an item, for instance got to somebody's feedback page and click on "contact member".

Has the ghost buyer admitted to his mistake or does he still think that he bought your item?

              Regards,
              Geoff.

                Hi Geoff
I have sent a message explaining what eBay say but have had as yet no reply.
Its my guess that when they discover their error they will not admit anything and just leave me alone.
If they are trying a scam, as I have contacted eBay and they have all the facts the ghost buyer will try and move on to another seller.

What kind of feedback did this ghost buyer have? You should be able to sus if they were trying it on from their feedback, anyone with less than 100% and with not many transactions I would tend to be very cautious of! Also look at their buying and purchasing history.

That's the funny thing which is why I think in reality they may be a victim of some scam, the feed back was not bad it shows 195 with 100% but checking through there were three or four occasions they did not pay for goods they bid for.

                    Mine is a true 100%
