  • creeping changes in photography world ?

#1 cameras: from FILM to DIGITAL = already done, well almost as far as compact cameras and 135 type dSLRs are concerned.

#2 models: HUMAN BEINGS to ROBOTICS ?! now coming?

Being a landscaper, I'm now thinking when landscapes will be not real but ... what? robotics?

I saw this android on a TV news programme a few weeks ago. It seems to be that the Japanese in particular have a great interest and affinity with robots in general. In the west there is a more suspicious attitude towards artificial 'humans'.

I understand this particular android is the most human-like yet and her facial expressions look very realistic. Personally, I'm keen to see more robotic technology and I'm not (as far as I know) afraid of this prospect.

I'm facinated by the technology and applaud the huge advances that these people have made. The spin off from such research will also be of huge benefit.

I just do not understand why anyone would want to produce an artificial person/android, apart from the income generated by the publicity.

I want my coffee machine to make excellent coffee, I really don't want it anthropomorphised to give it a personality. I guess I'm not impressed by style over substance.

I would however like my camera to react to voice commands

Hi Graham - I suspect that your view may be seen in years to come as being, well, typical of an age that may not have fully grasped the potential of robots. OK, an Android is a robot in humanoid form and function. I can't see anything wrong with that - I'd love a Star Trek 'Data' like android to be created. Stories like Asimov's I, Robot, have fascinated me for a long time. Functional domestic robots have been around for a long time - I think a typical washing machine certainly qualifies, for example. Robotic lawn mowers and vacuum cleaners are already on the market and I see no reason why these won't evolve into more versatile solutions. We have evolved and become bi-pedal and with two arms, etc., so why shouldn't robots follow that route and become androids? Is it because we can't imagine a place with androids or are we afraid of the prospect?

              Yes, that'll be nice.
My immediate needs would be a tripod that is anthropomophised to carry a cemera on it and follows me everywhere. I do not expect him/her to dance but the ability to sing a song with that Hatsune Miku voice would be not bad.

Hi Ian, I like that book, too. read it many years ago when I was thirteen.
The movie version of 'I, robot' is completely different from the original book which created the famous Three Pcinciples of Robots.

I really wanted Asimov to finish the Foundation stories, one of my favorites.

I'm sure I've seen a golf cart with a built in sound system somewhere, that can follow the person about. All it would need is a ball head (with quick release plate) and your set to go...

Thanks yoshi - most interesting and exiting.

Unlike Graham I would love one of these models. Just think - I could have Anne on one arm and another pretty lady on the other.

                      Now that's modern.

I want my robot to be free of 2D constraints and function with 6 degrees of freedom. Once we crack the small gravity problem, legs become redundant.

I tend towards "Form follows Function" but equally appreciate aesthetic design. Probably another reason I like Olympus Cameras.

I really just cannot wait to see Anne's take on this idea...
