anyone see last tuesday's re wedding photography?

i concluded it was a masterclass in what happens when there is little planning and preparation. the photo tips were all good, however the rest of 'how to shoot a wedding' was seriously lacking. i kept rewinding to check on certain things....
ceremony started at 1-30. they didn't find the town until 2-30
first time the togs met the bride & groom was at the church

the photos appeared to be ok, with the exception of the reception venue bridal-party-in-front-of-a-window where exposure should've been taken on the people. as to how many photos were gotten, is another question.

i didn't see another photographer in attendance, so it would appear that a lot of the key must-haves were probably missed.

the one thing that stood out was that the american lady is due to shoot her sisters (iirc) wedding in december AND be the maid of honour . with weddings, you're either a guest (with or without a camera) or you are the official photographer and NOT part of the guest list. i sincerely hope that she isn't left in that impossible situation of trying to do both jobs at the same time in december.

i felt sorry for the 2 photographers as, maybe due to the edit, they weren't given sufficient info to do a good job.

    anyone else see it?

Re: channel 5's new "how to" photography prog

I saw it - watched it with interest as I did my first wedding last month... I read up an awful lot, and had done amateur shoots before - mostly candid shots as a guest. I'd also asked for advice on here, and from a friend who's a professional wedding shooter.

Although I'm a long time friend of the bride's family, I was there as an employee, not a guest. I was much too busy making sure I ticked off all the shots we'd discussed to fraternise with the other guests, even though I knew over 50% of them!

I was shocked and horrified that they got lost on the way and didn't arrive until the wedding party was coming out of the church and it struck me as totally unprofessional.

Did you see the first one about portraits? I only caught half of it because the phone rang...

i did see the portrait one (watched eps 1 & 2 last night), but was busy preping some display shots for tomorrow so didn't really take it in.
if you go to you tube and search for "how to take stunning photos" both episodes should show up. failing that, i should be able to transfer the sky+ to dvd if you're really stuck.

I think it was advertised after the gadget show the other week and thought it might be interesting, but then forgot about it, I think its one of those series which I prefer to watch all at once. Maybe its on channel 5 website or something.
I have the masters of wedding dvd's they are good.

Now those I would be interested in - the Channel 5 "how to" show has been a bit patchy so far.

I thought the "getting late" at the wedding was a bit fake. Come on they had a whole film crew with them of course they could get there on time. It was a bit like the set up's on Top Gear.
As for the rest of the show it was ok i guess. But the "pro" picking the Martin Parr type shots at the end was fun, as the two photographers sort of looked none pulsed when she picked them, as they were picking the "twee wedding shots".

watched the landscape one last night. the feet on the ledge shot caught my eye. for the wrong reasons. the print hanging up was different to the one shown on the tv.

also saw the sports photography one. disappointing. might as well just stick the camera on the action-muppet-mode setting based on the advice given. good advice about capturing the emotion involved, yet was surprised there was no mention of panning with the action, which is an absolute must for sports.

Dave, I think we all expected to much from this programme. 30 minuets - adverts - competition - introduction of photographers - evaluation of shot taken = 9 minuets teaching how to take good photos. How much can anyone cram into that short time? I think it's over edited to fit a slot and we don't see half of what is filmed on the day.
Regards Ron. Live each day as if it was your last. One day you will be right. Down sized to Nikon s7000 compact camera.

Then the program is not worth making if they can't give proper advise. Trying to fit to much into a half hour (less adverts) is pointless and adds up to no advise of note.
From the comments on this thread that is very evident.

I saw the first one wasn't that impressed, didn't see the second wasn't interested, may give the third a viewing on the Sunday repeat, if I remember.
