As I said. It's not for everyone but I travel a lot. And to have my phone. iPod. access to the Internet. A now decent camera and some very decent games to pass the hours on a plane is worth it. The added video calling is just a huge cherry on top

But Josh, you can't use the video calling if you don't have wifi access, why not let users communicate using mobile data if they wish to? And why does it only work with another iPhone 4? Why shouldn't you be able to connect to a conventional webcam?

You know, Apple made such a big deal of Big Brother back in 1984 when the first Mac was launched - but they have become Big Brother, dictating what you can and can't have in a rather cynical manner in my opinion. No flash, no user changeable batteries, restrictions on apps, no video calling on mobile data, no video calling to webcams, no SD card support, no user-changeable battery ... etc.

Luckily, if like me you won't stand for that, there are plenty of alternatives.

I'm NOT anti everything Apple. I can see the appeal of iMacs an MacBooks, but they definitely aren't for everyone. But the iPhone policy that amounts to a huge long list of restrictions just stumps me.

      Hi

Fortuntely I don't work for apple so I don't have to defend their policies. I just choose to buy their products. My music and movies are from iTunes so having an apple device works for me.
Going back to the very start of the thread. If an apple iPhone works for you then I recommend getting one. It just works and that includes the video calling which this week has been worth every penny to see my family every night whilst being away. Yes if you have laptops you can achieve the same but i travel with a work issued ( if you install non work software on it IT will seek you out) laptop and video calling from the iPhone is simple.

      Best regards

I'm certainly not disrespecting your choice, Josh. You're clearly very comfortable with your choice and that's fine. And your point is well made that if the iPhone works for you then get one. I agree with that - as long as you make an informed choice, and I'm sure you did.

But none of this addresses the issues that annoy me and many others. I think Apple is wrong regarding its restrictive policies surrounding the iPhone (and aspects of the iPod range) and unless people voice their opinions there is little incentive for the manufacturer to change and for potential customers to learn more about what they're buying into.
