  • On lens IS vs in camera IS

    Dear all
Just picked up a panasonic 14-140 to use with my ep2. Quick question do I keep the on lens IS on even though the ep2 has is in the body?

    Thanks

Re: On lens IS vs in camera IS

Hi Josh, I have no experience with equipment you mention but all I can advise is try it with both on. Im thinking it would not be adviseable as both os systems could work against each other, is there anything in the manual for the cam about using lenses with built in IS?
This is just a hunch, but I would expect a stabilized lens to be more effective than a body IS system.
    cheers
    Ash.

      Thanks Ash

Have found out that the body is works better as I am mixing panasonic lenses with Olympus body.

      Best regards

using Both is definitely a NO No

Camera Labs did a test on this some time ago when the E-510 came out

Re: On lens IS vs in camera IS

There is a school of thought that in-lens IS is more effective with long focal lengths, but I have found that some in-lens systems work better than others. I'm also unconvinced that altering the optics to counter shake is ideal - seems like a big compromise to me.

So I would go with in-body IS by default (and from memory the camera will override the lens) while if you are using the 140mm end with very slow shutter speeds, it may be worth using the in-lens IS.
