  • Kingston 16GB CF card FAILED

    Hi Julia,

I did a shoot today (10-06-10) and thought I'd use the new 16GB Kingston card that I won in a DPN comp but it failed! I was about 50 frames into the shoot that captured a baby taking her first steps, Needless to say I'm gutted. I just took the new card out of the packaging today. What shall I do. I cannot access the frames shot - had to use an old card in the end.

ps I sent this via PM on Friday but it remains unanswered so put it here.

Does the card come with file recovery siftware ? some do. Also there are some file recovery utilities that can be used. Don't know which they are I'm afraid as it has (touch wood) never happened to me, but I am sure someone here can point you in the right direction.

These cards do not come with recovery software. However some Sandisk cards do, though I believe now its a free download. I found this link on their site so it going to be worth a download.
RescuePRO - the ultimate tool for everyone from LC-Technology. It recovers all formats of files, try it for FREE!

Oddly enough I had a situation a couple of weeks ago when I had done a shoot then found they didn't appear to be on the card. So I did them all again and this time they were all there. When I got home I went to download them into Lightroom and ALL the shots were there, most odd. Anyway never had a problem since.

I had the same thing happen to me with the one I won too. The camera ws being really slow to access it, so I tried reformatting it and ensuring it was inserted correctly, but after a few frames it then stopped working altogether. When I tried to view the shots I'd taken, it said that the file format was invalid.

I thank you all for your input here, I've got an outdoor shoot this afternoon so will look here later more closely at the suggestions.
