  • Backing with with Time Machine

As a number of DP-Now members know I bought not to long ago a iMac, I also bought a new external HD to run as a HD as if in the machine, and another HD using Macs Time Machine.
My main backup using Goodsync is a Buffalo server with raid, belts a braces you might think.

I have used Goodsync for some time now on my PC's with great success but for some inexplicable reason the Mac version of the software deletes rather than backs-up images, I lost around 1000 images.
Thank goodness for Time machine saved the day, with its automatic backing up. Restored all lost files. It's a quite remarkable Idea, It backs up daily or even several times a day. With multiple backups going back weeks. When its full it deletes the oldest backup for the newest one. This means if the time machine latest backup has lost the files because they had already gone, you can go back until you find the backup with the info and restore just what you lost. Great stuff .

I am now waiting for Goodsync to get back to me regarding the problem of the deleting.

Glad to hear time machine worked well. I have had a similar experience. The children managed to do something to their iMac and programs began to crash. A quick step back in time and all was sorted.

    Best regards

Yep, Time Machine was one of the great innovations Apple introduced in their Leopard OS. I use it along with a Time Capsule external HD which also doubles as my router. Using a USB hub I can attach all my other external drives to the Router and access them all wirelessly on my iMac.
