  • Focus stacking for macro subjects.

    We all know the problems with depth of field on macro pictures. I have just been playing with a demo version of Helicon Focus software http://www.heliconsoft.com/ and am quite impressed. There is a lot to learn but this is my second attempt. Essentially you take a series of pictures focusing progressively through the image. I used a Raynox macro on the kit 14-45mm G1 lens. Manual exposure so nothing changes as you take the series of pictures but I found the autofocus on its tightest area ideal for moving the focus point through the subject, I just moved the focus point from front to back of the subject over seven images.

    This is a typical 'slice'

    Well done. Not many people will experiment with techniques such as this, but the results you have achieved show just what can be done.

    Surprizingly my Olympus E-500 has a 5 frame automatic focus "bracketing" that I thought I'd try:
