Curved sensors have been the subject of research for some time and a number of patents have been granted. At present fabrication is very difficult and expensive. Flexible gel lenses already exist, I think some cameraphones may already use them so the idea is very plausible.
At present interest seems to be centred on niche specialised applications. Whether it is the way the mass market will go time will tell.

As has already been mentioned, a curved sensor is difficult to make, and so would be very expensive.
If you use a flat sensor, you simply need to apply correction algorithms to get a normal looking image. In fact even an image projected onto a spherical sensor would need correction to make it look 'normal' and this is what the brain does for us
