  • Marriage and Photography Business

For the last 4 years I've been doing photography under my maiden name. Last year I registered my photography as a business with that same maiden name. And granted I haven't made all that many sales and it's not like I'm well known, it's still the name that's on many of my photos (digitally) back when I was still signing them. And a few people do remember my last name when looking at my photos because at first glance it almost looks like Portraits.

In 3 weeks I'm getting married and being the traditional girl I am I do want to take him name. But.... what do I do about all of the above? Do I go thought and change my name through all of it? Stop selling the photos that have my maiden name on them?

Any thoughts or advice on this would be much appreciated.

I have a friend who was widowed and is an artist and she always signed her name, she then remarried. Her dilemma was the same as yours, so she just added her husband's name to her own surname. In fact, there are 2 of them with the same circumstances and both now use both surnames on their pictures.

    eg Ann Smith

    now

Ann Smith-Jones or Ann Smith Jones

One of them hyphenates and the other doesn't.

I don't see any harm in continuing the business side of things with your current name after you are married.
