Mike Parr has pointed out that Internet Explorer users can use a rather good free spell check plug-in called IeSpell. You can download it from:
It's free for personal use. I've just tried it and it's not bad at all. It supports British, American and Canadian dictionaries and it is compatible with other IE form editing functions.
FireFox browser support is on the to-do list.
I'm still going to evaluate an embedded spell check option though as there are plenty of potential users for whom IeSpell is not appropriate.
