  • Forum software upgrade - is anyone having problems?

The forum software has been patched this evening. Some people have reported problems in recent days and I'm hoping that some or all of you may experience less troublesome use of the forum now.

If not, please get in touch so that we can analyse the situation further.

    Thanks,

    Ian

Not a problem as such but I just refreshed the forum and I had to log back in again.

That's not unusual after a software update and simply means the browser cookie that identifies you to the forum has been updated.

Very slow here at the moment via cable broad band. Will come back later to see if it persists.

                Hi Bob,

The DPNow server is located in the US, so it's frustrating to hear that it's slow for you - in the US!

Mind you, I find that images load slowly when I am at home - we have a 20Mbit connection there, and yet they load fast here at the office where we only have a 5MBit connection.

Hopefully you're just experiencing a local routing issue that will be cleared up soon.

                  Hi Ian,
Just to check in again, the rest of the web is smokin' whil you are snailin'. It does seem more sure that it will open the page and not time out like it did this morning.
The ad on the left side of my screen says: Myth or Fact? People with Mental Illness Recover? I see you are targeting your market better.....

I'm sorry if the US advertising isn't well targeted, we do have a US-based agent representing us, but it's not working

                        Hi Ian,
For this morning's check, I visited most of the vBulleton forums that I visit and then here for comparison. DPN is still noticeably slower, even compared to 4/3rds User.
I hope you know that the comments about the ads was in jest.
Your home page loaded normally, I'll go check the blogs to see if they behave.

The ads situation is a matter of concern! Both for our visitors and for our revenue

DPNow is running on a more powerful dedicated server than FTU (more memory, more CPU cores, etc.) so I may raise the performance with the hosting company.

PS Bob - you looking forward to next week and the Olympus Micro Four Thirds unveiling?

                            Hi Ian,
The blogs were slow, too and I liked yours about over/under exposure. To get this reply screen is took 1.5 minutes.
Re: PS.....Yes, anytime a bigger sensor arrives in a small package, it is bound to be a good thing. While we sort of know what it looks like from the leaks, there are the fine point for you to cover. For fun you have to put one of these new bodies on the back of a "big" lens.
I'm more interested in the "other carrot" rumored to be dangling out there somewhere, the one with the EVF that might resemble the Pen F. I hope they tell you something about it that you can repeat. It is a big time for Oly and an anniversary, too. When do you think you'll get your test sample?
