  • Forum upgrade today

Apologies for the brief interruption of service this afternoon - this was to enable an upgrade of our forum software to the latest version.

A more secure anti-spam/bot registration procedure is now in place, and you may notice other changes, like the ability to add key word tags to posts, and social book marking options. Attached images in posts are now displayed in a snazzier way, though we continue to recommend the use of the gallery for including images in your posts.

I'm trying to improve the usefulness of the undread threads option, but this part of the upgrade is not yet ready - watch this space!

    Re: Forum upgrade today

I must say that I have been very impressed with the way attachments now behave on the forum and Blog. Before the upgrade I used to hate having to click on attachments which would open in a new window and meant you had to navigate back. I always felt that navigating away from the original forum page was bad. However the new system seems to use a sort of Java or Flash system to open the photo in a sort of overlay where you can actually navigate through a series of attachments, then just click the close icon and the overlay goes, very slick. In some respects its better than posting images in the body of a post.

Yes, it's an improvement. Though I do encourage members to use the gallery, especially if their pictures are for 'exhibition' on the site. Using forum attachments for diagrams and the like is better of course.
