Re: Hello from Adobe UK's training facility

Hi Ian. A great big thank you for arranging such a wonderful day out. I personally came away with several lasting impressions. 1) Two fabulous packages presented by an excellent demonstrator. 2) The thought put into the development of the packages which made most of the operations fairly intuitive. 3) The hospitality of Adobe in entertaining the group and the marvelous food which they provided for lunch and afternoon break. Thanks again Ian and Adobe for the day. I could have done with about a three day course to get more familiar with the many features of the packages.

I was in fact impressed with Photoshop and Lightroom . . . and it ran well on the Dell PC that I was using.

I was joking about the kit but must admit to being an Apple Computer fan and am saving up for a MacBook Pro myself.

Adobe were also pleased with the way it went and they have confirmed that we will be able to do another session towards the end of the year. We will plan much further in advance this time and I propose to build in an element of 'earning' one's place on the event as it's likely to be over-subscribed. Look out for an announcement in the early autumn.

Re: Hello from Adobe UK's training facility

Just wanted to add that both Ruby and I had a great day too. The product demonstrations were superb and interactive element really made a difference to our appreciation of the new software tools, both in CS3 and Lightroom. I'd recommend these sessions to anyone who can find the time to attend - they really give you the kind of insight into the software and it's real benefits that no online product review could possibly achieve.

Thanks to Ian for organising this and to Adobe (especially Emma and Steve) who were extremely helpful and hospitable.

I'd very much echo those sentiments, the hands on element was really worthwhile.

Unbelievably, and unknown not only to us but also the tutor, Steve, Adobe had an impromptu draw and gave away 2 copies of Lightroom, and 1 copy of CS3. Needless to say, I was not one of the lucky ones but a great piece of PR from Adobe. Congrats to the 3 lucky winners

Brilliant! Congratulations to the lucky winners from me too!

Of course you were lucky, Stephen. You were able to attend.

                  Ian

Thanks to you and Adobe for the session. It was well paced and looked at some areas that I think in general will help most photographers as opposed to items which are somewhat more esoteric. The demo of smart filters in action was particularly useful.

As a user of Lightroom since the first Windows beta it was good to see how far this product has come - the output options in particular are tremendous. I suspect that the database facilities are equally good but since I deal in hundreds rather than thousands of images I do not think that I am well placed to comment on that.

Naturally getting a nice freebie at the end was a huge plus.

                    Ian,
Will there be a similar event in the USA?

Glad you got some extra special value out of the day

And thank you for the suggestion of a shoot to print 'master class' idea for the future -it's an excellent idea and I know just the person to produce it!

                        That's a tough question!

The logistics of doing this in the USA would be much more problematical. I'd really need someone to run with it for me in the US but I don't have such a close relationship with Adobe there. But I'm not saying it's impossible.

I'm talking to a US company about providing a prize draw competition specifically for North American DPNow visitors, though I hope to announce something soon...

Re: Hello from Adobe UK's training facility

Hello Ian and hello to all the other attendees. It was a real pleasure to meet you all and I thoroughly enjoyed the lively conversations at the little corner pub we adjourned to at the end of the day.
Well, Adobe and Ian really did us proud. I was astounded at the quality of the day: I didn't really know what to expect, but the trip from deepest Zummerzet was worth it!
It's funny, but I feel more comfortable with Lightroom now than before, despite having seen a couple of videos and read books on it.
Steve's presentation has also made me happier about upgrading to CS3, I can certainly see the worth in that now.
Many thanks Ian, count me in on the next presentation you organise. It would have to be *really* off the wall for me to have to think for more than a second or two! And pass on my thanks to Adobe, would you? They couldn't have done much more to make us feel welcome.
