I've had some success with my other site starting an Instagram page to promote the site and to showcase the best of the members' images. You can see it here:

Welcome back to Instagram. Sign in to check out what your friends, family & interests have been capturing & sharing around the world.

There is also a #egroupuk hashtag for people to tag images on their own pages and to search for E-Group-related content on Instagram.

So I would like to start something similar for DPNow

I will always ask for permission to repost images from here on Instagram, but out of interest - is there anyone here that would rather not be included?

And if you are happy - can you let me know?

Also, if you have an Instagram account already, can you let me know your user name so I can tag you back?

If you aren't sure what Instagram is all about - let me know too

I rarely use Instagram and was surprised that I had two different accounts: gymnast1946 and patmoore441 I'm only able to post a link to one of them

Feel free to use whatever you like.

Instagram is low-brow in that you dn't get to see a lot of technical information (no exif data), the default crops your image to a square frame (though you can now override that) and people tend to post very brief captions.

But Instagram can magnify the exposure of your images markedly. Thousands can see a thumbnail of your image depending on how you use hashtags to associate it with other images under the 'collection' dictated by the hashtag - #wildlifephotography for example:

Welcome back to Instagram. Sign in to check out what your friends, family & interests have been capturing & sharing around the world.

You can add lots of hashtags to your image caption. Here's one I did for an image on the E-group (#egroupuk) Instagram page:

You can see the page here: https://www.instagram.com/p/B9cJ_upD..._web_copy_link

Here is the caption (the hashtags only work on the actual page on Instagram:

E-Group member from Dundee @derekhogan8 (DekHog) took this #sensational portrait of his #daughter two years ago.
          #portrait #portraiture #portraitphotography #lighting #scarf #headscarf #beautiful #thatlook #pose #posed #nicepose #perfectpose #olympus #omd #olympusomdem10markii #omdem10markii #em10markii #olympusuk #microfourthirdsgallery #microfourthirds #microfournerds #getolympus #mzuiko #mzuiko1240mm #mzuiko1240pro #egroupuk

You are competing with a lot of other images but as the site makes it easy to view images in succession very quickly you can skim through and only stop when an image stands out.

That's a lot of good info Ian! Two weeks ago Okemo Mountain posted a 30 second video clip of mine on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.I just looked at the number of views: Facebook: 5,129, Twitter: 1,300+, and Instagram: 5,874! I guess I should be paying more attention to Instagram.

Here's a link to the short clip. I videoed the first two guys. I'm the third person in the video.
830 Likes, 15 Comments - Okemo Mountain Resort (@okemomtn) on Instagram: “We don't mean to brag, but conditions have been pretty great at Okemo lately. The corduroy has been…”

I have 3 Instagram accounts - one for my personal images ([http://instagram.com/carolannphotos) - lots of cats and flowers; and the other main account is for my music photographer (http://instagram.com/ladygigger).

The third is very new and it's to publicise our new review site. Not really relevant here, so I won't add that.
