  • DPNow article pages crashing IE8?

I'm trying to help someone that is having problems with IE8 crashing randomly on some of our main site article pages. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to recreate the problem at our end.

Does anyone else have this problem? If so, could you get in touch with details?

If you could try going to:

    http://dpnow.com/2010/03/PictureOfTheDay.html

..and then selecting the POTD for 22nd March?

Sometimes I see one of the ads missing, but the rest of the page loads normally.

Any feedback on this would be gratefully appreciated. Please email [email protected]

I'm just clutching at straws here you understand, but I wonder if this persons IE8 is configured in such a way that it doesn't like the page adverts or the text links to adverts. Does IE8 accept third party plugins such as Adblock for example.

Re: DPNow article pages crashing IE8?

I sometimes have a problem with the Front Page crashing when I select a item. No problems with the rest of the site, even with Picture of the Day. I presume it's a fault at my end - a minor irritation.

I too have had this problem where a page will lock IE8 into a "Not Responding" error. I've tried the same page in IE7 & Chrome and the page comes up OK. However I have also tried to view the same page with IE8 on another computer and it works.

It's not just this site, I've another that IE8 will not see the home page from my laptop. (Ian - I'll PM the site to you, you may want to try it)

I think it's an IE8 issue and now send error reports every time it happens...

Thanks for that Goeff, Ive just used Ian's link and its done it again right now, but only on his link not this page

The exact wording I get is "A script on this page is causing internet explorer to run slowly. If it continues to run your computer might become unresponsive" Stop running this script Yes/no

I know whatever I do will chuck me off all pages.

          So thats me then

I don't know how my answer above came up on this thread it should be on my thread in computer problems, but I'll bet it was my fault this time.

Anyway I'm going to try Google Chrome and see what happens. I was wondering if it was something to do with pop up blockers in either IE8 or AVG

I often get the same as AndyB along with the same error message. I get around it by:
minimising the frozen page and then carrying on viewing the forums.
After a few minutes the page free's itself and I can bring it back up and view as per normal.

                EDIT,
Just did it with the Corel Springtime Offers link.
I just bought the forums page up again to continue and will wait patiently to read the article later

I also had a problem (well complaint)with my e-mails and they told me to use firefox as my web browser.

Ive been using it a week now and not had any problems at all on this site, works as you'd expect.

IE8 does seem to be less robust than before, although that's no excuse - there is a problem with our code and it needs to be found and fixed.

Hi Ian. I am a newcomer to DP Now and I am also finding that when I switch from one section to another, the whole thing freezes and crashes. I am running IE 8. You are obviously aware of the problem but I thought it best to let you know it's still happening.
