Another flight in light winds

Very impressive images even if its not what you set out to get. I can just imagine how I would be with all these new gadgets you are using. I get confused trying to take a picture with my fully automatic point and shot camera I'm now using. I doubt I could learn to use anything new like you have had to in the last few months. Well done for persevering.

These modern gadgets have hidden bits and pieces which is where I went wrong yesterday. I returned to the station again today and as the Mail Train rounded the bend a Southern Train consisting
of 12 carriages pulled alongside Anne and I and blocked the view. My mind is telling me the train doesn't want to be videoed (bah humbug).

Barr1e - have you experimented with Neutral Density filters? I ordered an inexpensive set through Amazon. They shipped from China and took almost three months to arrive. Frankly I can't tell any difference. I sent the drone up to 280' and aimed it toward the mountain with no filter and again with an ND16. Here's the results of two still shots taken with the EV set at 0.0. Holding the filters up to a light it appears they have different darknesses but the results don't show it. I'll try again today with an ND32.

I don't know much about using filters on any lens - I can see a difference between the two pix above.

I'm beginning to realise I'm getting too old for this photography hobby. What purpose is there in using these filters with video? I'm sure I'm missing something here. In still photography they reduce the amount of light which you can compensate for by using a slower shutter speed. Doing so helps produce blur with subjects like moving Water. Or using a larger aperture which reduces dof, ideal for portraits etc.
So what effect could you produce in video. Ok forcing the camera to use a larger aperture may help blur the background making near objects stand out better. Most video camera have auto exposure so would compensate for less light but the end result would be almost the same. Please put me right as I can't see what's to be gained by using these Nd filters.

Many thanks Barr1e for your help. I'm now a lot wiser and can see that there is a need to use these filters in certain types of shot. For still shots all the rules apply as with any DLSR camera. Regards the video shots I'm sure those trying to produce professional looking videos will have a need to use them. Personally I don't think my videos are in that class so won't bother with them. I really doubt if most viewers will notice the difference or even care if there is a lack of motion blur. Would be just something else for my ageing brain to worry about.

Winds and conditions have kept me drone free for a few days.
We went out yesterday to use the camera and drone but the winds were with us again.

However I used the gimble with phone for this one.

Hurricane heading our way and torrential rains just let up. Radar showed a break for at least an hour and the winds were light so I elected to try a short flight with a new program that works with the Mini drone. It's called Dronelink and cost $20 (one time fee). I found the controls a bit overwhelming and the instructional videos are for folks who have better technology skills but I decided to give it a try. On my PC I created a short flight plan having the drone ascend to 200', fly a short distance to a nearby building and then fly a 100' orbit around it shooting a video with the gimbal aimed down 67 degrees. It worked flawlessly. When I hit the Go button on the Dronelink App, the drone started up, climbed to 200', flew to the destination, videod the orbit and then returned directly overhead. I couldn't figure out how to program it to land automatically, so I just tapped the Return To Home button on the controller. The drone returned to the departure point.

And here's the clip of the orbit. Youtube initially produced it in SD. HD will take longer.
