  • WEdding photography Lens - Which one is for me ?

Hi all. I am looking to buy a lens for doing wedding photography. I have a few lenses sitting here on my desk with me and they are a 10-20mm sigma, a canon 18.55mm a sigma 28-300mm and a canon 35-105mm lens too. I have been thinking about getting a 50mm prime because the forum posts i have ready all over the place tell me that i will have light issues when doing wedding photography. I have been doing commercial photography for a few years plus i have a photography studio in Dundee and light doesn't seem to be that much of an issue. btw i have a canon 430ex flash with a diffuser too.

    Any advice would be superb!

    Welcome to the DPNow forum!

To give you a sensible answer we really need to know which camera body (bodies?) and system you're using

      Hi ian

I am currently using a 40D and a 20D as backup. I am considering buying a new 7D this year if all goes to plan

Have you considered the prospect of going full frame with a 5DMkII and then get a 24-105f4L

I have always considered it was worthwhile investing in L series glass.

As a Pro perhaps you should consider a lease deal rather than buying outright.

As I see it the only problem for you is that the EFS lenses will not fit a 5D, so I'd get rid of them and the other two bodies. A radical solution I know but you would not regret it I'm sure

You remind me of Stephen a few years ago before he upgraded from a 20d to an EOS-1D Mark IIn (I think!) - though he is a pro who doesn't shoot weddings.

I think you may find the 430EX flash lacking in power too.

I have been considering the 7D this year but Im not sure. According to what i have been reading the 7D will be the beast this year. Cant afford a 1D of any mark so thats off the cards.
