  • question for ebayers

    Hi all,

Just sold my 5d on ebay and the winner of the auction has paid through paypal, but the payment says pending and won't let me withdraw the funds. have any of you come across this before. I have emailed Paypal but thought it might be quicker coming here.

    Thanks

    Hi Josh
Could be the purchaser has paid by Echeque, so you have to wait while it clears
Alternatively it could be your paypal account email address is different to your ebay account. It becomes an unclaimed payment and will eventually be refunded to the buyer. Don't send the camera whatever you do until you have the money in your PayPal account.

I had this trouble when I changed my email address.
I changed it with eBay but not with paypal, mistakenly I thought do the one and the other is automatic.
When listing the item you need to show the change of email, once done future listing are covered.

The solution was to contact the buyer explaining what has happened ask them to cancel the payment and to pay again with the new email address.
Ebay or paypal will advise you on how this is done.

These are the instructions I was given to follow

**** To resubmit payment to the correct email address:

    1. Log in to your account at https://www.paypal.co.uk
    2. Click the 'Send Money' tab.
    3. Fill out the form including the sellers correct email address under
    Your email address

          Hi Josh

          This all puzzles me.

They say send your camera and your buyer must give you a positive feed back or wait 21 days for them not to dispute the quality of the product before releasing the funds.

I think I would want more information and clear explanation why they have picked on your sale for this action before sending any camera.
As it stands you send the camera the buyer then disputes it, the money is refunded and they conveniently forget to send the camera back.
That is wide open to fraud.
For me no way would I part with my camera without payment. The buyer chose to send the payment you are being forced to send goods without payment, its not fair. I note you have 20 positive feed backs posted, surely that is what feed back is for a buyer can make an informed decision whether to trust a seller. I also note your buyer does at least have a good trading record.

I have found these phone numbers for paypal
          08707 307 191
          353 436 9111

I should talk to someone if I were you before posting, to find out exactly what is going on. Their reaction indicates for some reason they see you as a bad risk, you I am sure want to know why.

I agree - before sending off my camera worth that much, I'd want to know a bit more about what was going on.

Have you had previous negative feedback/disputes which might cause some concern for the seller/paypal?

I don't know about Josh but I had someone once pay by Echeque, I was waiting for the cheque to clear before sending the goods. Glad I did the cheque was stopped so I reported him to Ebay for none payment and low and behold he paid through paypal in the normal way before the dispute escalated.

thanks for taking the time to help guys.

Have spoken to paypal, no negative feedback on me, but there is a new policy that for high risk of fraud items (a digital camera falls into this) then they have started this process of holding payment until feedback or at least no complaint is received.

they have said the money is with them so will be sending tomorrow.

                best regards

                  Hi Josh

This still leaves questions don't you think?

Paypal are holding the money, if the buyer decides to dispute quality (don't for one moment think there could be justification) what happens then, do they continue to hold the money until you acknowledge return of the camera, before refunding the money to the buyer.
If not it seems to me the system is just as vulnerable to the unscrupulous buyer as it was the unscrupulous seller.
As it happens looking at the buyers feedback you have nothing to worry about.

                    Hi again Josh

I hope you don't mind me stating the obvious but you will be sending it special delivery, it can then be insured to the value or more of the sale, and get a signature.

                      Re: question for ebayers

Never known anything like this - been an eBayer since the start.

Paypals E-cheque is awful. Only experienced it once - from a buyer - and never again... I state on my auctions that I don't accept it.

Please let us know how this all ends up - I'm VERY confused. If eBay/Paypal start messing like this they may start to lose custom.

                        hi

Thanks all. I have used special delivery with 1k insurance. Re paypal and eBay this does look like it will be standard policy for certain items.

                        Best regards

                          Hi all

thought I would finish the story. Here is the final email I got from paypal stating this new policy of holding payment. I have now had positive feedback from the buyer and the funds have been released to me. So worked out.

                          Best Regards

                          Josh

"Please be advised that if the item that you are selling will fall under the category of high risk items, there will be a possibility that the payment will be placed on-hold. Since that item that you have sold would be a camera, it will fall under the category of high risk item since this is an electronic gadget.
You don not have to worry because the funds are already in your account and is just being placed on temporary hold, but once the buyer has posted a
positive feedback on eBay about the transaction, rest assure that the
payment will be released in your account. And that the buyer will not be
                          able to cancel this anymore."

The same thing happened to me when I sold a camera last year. If I remember rightly its only applied against ebayers with less than a certain level of feedback.
