32 inch widescreen TV - excellent condition

Before Christmas we 'upgraded' to an LCD panel, so our five year old Philips CRT widescreen TV, which has a genuinely flat screen is now surplus to requirement. It comes with matching stand and remote.

For teletext fans, this TV has a dynamic memory so you if you need to access frequently viewed pages or go back to a page you recently viewed, they are cached and instantly available - great for multi-page teletext!

In many ways this TV displays better quality than the new LCD panel (much less digital artefacts in standard TV resolution) but the new panel does display HD, which the Philips can't.

Hi Ian isn't it strange how technology is moving so fast these days, I had the 36" version of your tv, and as you said the picture was superb, we only decided to upgrade after a refurb of the lounge, as it took up so much room.
I hope your tv goes to a good home, we gave our's to friends for a very small fee, and hoped they would enjoy it just as we did.
If you dont get any offers you could always donate it to a hospital or hostel in your area, just a thought.

I have to say that unless you are watching HD content, the CRT produces a much better display than an LCD or Plasma - unless you step back far enough so that thet digital artefacts (pixellation and 'fizzing' around sharp details) are no longer discernible.

Our LCD is a 40 inch though it's only 'medium' res HD - or 720P. When watching standard res TV (normal broadcast or cable channels that aren't HD) I have to step about 7-8 feet back before the picture becomes what I feel is acceptable. Our room is only about 11 fee wide. You may ask, why get such a big TV for such a small room - I must rather sheepishly reveal that the TV was a prize I won in a draw!

When watching HD content, the LCD is back on a par with the old CRT. On Virgin cable HD content is rather limited it present, but we're watching the thriller/detective series) Day Break on HD (part of Virgin's Choice on demand service) and it's very good (both the drama and the picture quality).

But if you are thinking of moving to an LCD or plasma screen - be prepared for a quality shock when viewing standard broadcast res programmes.

This is all very true, and its a shame that retailers dispay a hd feed on the tv's when in store, obviously showing there full potential, but I bet alot of people are dissapointed when they get home and stick corry on

Your not wrong there!

I have a 32inch Samsung LCD (as you know) and the missus has just bought a PS3, I have to say, I was amazed at the difference!

Ash is bang on, I was a little disspointed when I first switched it on to watch 'normal' TV (though would never soil my retinas with Corry!.....Eastenders maybe )

To be honest though, anything under 37inch, or 40inch, doesnt really need 1080p, as the pixels are so close together anyway, you would see little or no difference.

Actually, decent DVDs look fine on the LCD, so it's probably down to the compression applied to broadcast feeds, combined with the up-scaling of pixels on the screen.

A dvd produces upto 540 horizontal lines as apposed to only 330 lines for an analogue tv broadcast, digital broadcasting is different as in they choose what quality to send it out, bitrate etc

I too recently bought a 47inch LCD telly to replace my Philips 28" widescreen one.

Tell you what. Couldn't give it away Honestly, phoned everyone I know up and eventually found someone who took it off my hands. Decent telly it was too, not more than 3 years old and perfect condition.
