Wow, I didn't expect to get that one it was starting look pretty difficult. The small bit of coloured cloth/material in the second image was the key

Anyway thanks Geoff, I'll now have a ponder and hopefully put an image up later.

Good guess but not a radiator Eddie, however the louvres do help to facilitate a degree of cooling to the object in question (that's a bit of a clue)

Hi Graham, narrow it certainly is made possible by the 50 f/2 wide open sat on top of the EC-20 together with my trusty E-PL2.....

But sadly it's not a heat sink although these louvres do facilitate air flow (as previously mentioned).

With such rapid fall off in focus, it's something with quite a small radius.

Off to look for thin cylindrical things

Hi Graham, no not a hair curling tool and no it's not cylindrical

Actually in that image the optical axis was inclined at perhaps 30 degrees to the horizontal, so you are looking at a 'flat' upper surface with several louvres in it (front to back).

Here is another image further towards the front of the object, the camera was again inclined at roughly the same angle but the aperture is closed up to f/11.

Then I'll drop in another clue, it's about 'small' book sized and I imagine most keen photographer's have something similar (although it's not photography kit per se).
