Good for Kylie! She's a real toughie, nowt seems to put her off.
It's been snowing steadily all day here but it's quite wet snow and doesn't seem to be getting any deeper than about 3-4 inches at the moment.
Here's a pair of Blackbirds from this afternoon.
First the male

and the female

Re: How's your snow?
I haven't seen a thrush in our garden for many years, so this is a rarity:

Incidentally, this was taken at ISO 1250 and processed in LR3 beta, so no luminance noise reduction has been applied, hence the graininess in the dark areas.
Our snow is sticky, so it builds up even on the clothes lines. We havearoun 8 inches here.
Nice blackbird shots, Pol - no EXIF data in your shots, but I'm curious about your camera settings

I was watching a thrush this afternoon but kept missing the shot. I think it was teasing me!Originally posted by Ian View PostI haven't seen a thrush in our garden for many years, so this is a rarity:

Both the Blackbird shots were just handheld grabs through the window. It was snowing all the time too and the light wasn't very good. So I was using the ISO priority mode set at 400 on the Pentax K20D. The exif for each is listed below.
Male Blackbird - a crop of approx 70% from the full frame
Pentax K20D + Pentax 300mm F.4 (prime lens)
1/250
f/4
ISO400
300mm
Spot metering
Female Blackbird - shot later in the afternoon when the light was fading rapidly - from the last few shots of the day actually.
Pentax K20D + Sigma 150-500mm (old version)
This one was handheld and the settings were
1/80
f/6.7
ISO 400
500mm
Spot metering
So I got lucky with that female as that shutter speed was quite slow!

Re: How's your snow?
Its rare for us to get snow out here in West Wales so I took the camera when we walked the dog in the local woodland and tried out my new collapsible tripod .Its cheap and cheerful (present from mother) but it gave me good results in still conditions.

Re: How's your snow?
Some great shots of your snow in UK! I really like the weeping willow covered in snow! Whilst you freeze, we in Melbourne swelter with expected temperatures of 36 degrees tomorrow & the next day! Tree cutters came to our work today & cut almost every tree down within 20 metres from dwellings because of posing fire threats! I've attached a couple of pics taken the other day of Blackbird nestlings, taken through the fence! The nest was in my neighbour's potplant! They were covered in bird lice poor things! All 3 flew the nest a couple of days after the photos were taken!

Here are some shots taken this morning:

The last image was taken through the railings. It was disappointing not being able to get right into the park and to the lake.
