  • Just 'Dropping' By...

We've been aware over the past week or so that a bird of some description must've been perching on our french door-handle at the back of the house. There was a concentrated area of droppings on the floor directly below the exterior handles and so today I set up the camera in the lounge with a 70-200 lens and the remote cable to see if I could grab a shot of the perpetrator.

Here he is. I watched him sit there for a good 30 mins, before working out that he was quite obviously fascinated by his own reflection. I ended up with about 30 shots, but I like this one because he seems to be looking straight at the camera.

Haven't been on here for about two years, so hello to everyone who remembers me and hello to those who don't...

He's a handsome hunk. Nice facial expression there as he does a self appraisal in his mirror I suppose.

Reminds me of another gorgeous hunk who used to frequent these forums, though I don't think he used to dump on doorsteps.

At first we wondered whether he might be using the handle to pick off the odd slug or snail as they climbed up the door. However he just sat there cocking his head and it soon became apparent that it was his reflection he was interested in.

He certainly isn't underfed, is he?

Hi Tim, nice to see you!

We have a perky little robin in our garden too. He (she?) isn't in the least wary of our four ex-battery hens when they're out free-ranging in the garden.

I will snap him on teh feeders sooner or later

A bit older, a tad more wrinkled but still living and breathing so I'm not complaining either.

Last year we had this little fellow visit every morning for about 10 days and each day he stayed about 15 minutes. He did a little dance each time fluttering upwards about 12 inches and down again several times before departing.

Hi Ian, thanks for the welcome back.

My elderly neighbour assures me that Robins are always referred to as 'he', even when they might be 'she'. There's no logic to support this, so don't shoot the messenger...

He cute! We have one that sometimes perches on an upstairs bedroom sill and taps its beak on the glass. We also had a Long-tailed tit that does the same fluttering up and down on a small downstairs window.

Cheers Pops. My ten year-old daughter practically had 'him' feeding from her hand earlier today, so I'm sure he won't be getting hungry anytime soon...
