  • Colour from the EP1 Pen

    Dear All,

As some of you may know I have been posting pictures shot in jpeg using an Olympus EP1 pen. I explored many of the filters with a focus on the B&W grainy filter. Anyway, now that lightroom recognises the raw files here are a few in colour a couple shot in colour and then converted to B&W using elements.

As you will see the camera is encouraging me to experiment and not all will agree with my view of what makes a good picture, but that is the great thing about this hobby. IMHO.

    Hope you enjoy this series.

    Best Regards

    Josh

I love that first one of the tube train zipping through!

I also especially like the 'minty humbug' effect of the b/w deck chairs.

Great set of images there Josh. I particularly like the variety of topics chosen/spotted.

Thanks all. Loving being out with the camera.

I use the 14-42 lens. Quick question. I like the picture of the lady walking up the escalator but is it really a good picture or just a shaky reject?

                Best regards

                    Hi Josh,
Good set. The escalator shot caught my eye for the motion it portrayed. In looking at it again, I looked for something "not moving" and found it in the steps in front of the lady. This is what anchors the picture and separates it from just another shaky shot. The focal plane is in front of the lady and gives me the impression that she is moving toward the focus. Good shot.

Thanks bob. Really appreciated the info. I felt the picture worked but couldn't work out why. Now I know.

                      Best regards

It works for me too, Josh. Mine are maybe slightly different reasons to Bob's but I agree his reasons also add to mine.

What I see and feel is "the rush hour" and the feeling that the photographer is also rushing. He's one of those people who runs up the other side of the escalator overtaking those moving at a slower pace on the right. And the 'overtaker' is taking pics as he rushes past the others.
