  • Acute Attack Of Nostalgia

    Just a fr'instance moment.

I found some of my older pictures in an old album recently, and looking through them really drove home to me how much going digital has improved my photography. My skills have improved greatly, mainly through not having to rely on the nearest photo lab to where I happened to be I think. This is just a small collection of some pics taken in Thailand in the early 70s, Nikon F3 and Ektachrome, but they don't scan too well.

Poor quality , taken from a low,(very low) flying helicopter, the F3 and a 200mm lens were not the ideal combination.

This one of the boat boys worked out better.

This one, and the trishaw one were taken from my hotel room. The hotel didn't have any stars but it did have loads of character. In any case it was the only hotel in Nakhorn Si Thamarat at that time!

I don't suppose that I'd recognise Nakhorn now. In those days it was communist bandit country.

    Good old days!

The quality could be down to the scanner. Are you using a good quality film scanner or a flat bed scanner with a film adapter?

Actually Ian, I have not got access to the transparencies so I am scanning old prints, and the major problem is that most were printed on lustre paper which does not scan too well on my cheapo Canon Lide25.

Nice images Roger. We had a lovely holiday in Thailand a few years ago and also had a ride on a trishaw at night. As there were more then 10 trishaws, we had to have a police escort going through Bangkok.

It was a very interesting trip, as because we were part of a group we felt safe, but were also able to see far more into the houses and shops and warehouses. Had we been on a coach or a taxi, it would not have been nearly so interesting.

        Thanks for sharing.
