    Hi Rog,

This doesn't look right to me - the dark areas aren't dark enough? It's all semi-dark. I downloaded it and upped the darkness and it looks much better. Would you like to see what I have done?

Where was this in the Philippines? I didn't know (or at my age, forgot!) that you had been there. My mother is a filipina

I didn't play with it Ian, just scanned it from an Ektachrome print taken with my Nikon F3. It is not a true silhouette because there was still too much light in the sky. Taken in Subic Bay.

I was based in Manila, Nichols Air Base, for a year in 1982 when I delivered six new helicopters to the PAF. I then stayed for a year to help them run them. Unfortunately, because of insurance problems, I had to leave my own yacht in Singapore. I liked the Philippines very much even though it was a bit like the Wild West, and the insurers were worried about all the piracy at that time, and wouldn't cover me.

Wow - you had your own yacht in the Far East What a life!

Are you a helicopter pilot? (May seem like a silly question! But you might have been part of an admin or maintenance team of course.)

I lived in the Philippines between 1972 and 1974 and went to the International School in Manila. I never went to Subic Bay, unfortunately, though we did entertain students from the military base school there at sports matches (not being ver sporty I wasn't directly involved!). I did go to Angeles city a few times as my family there had an office there. And further on to Baguio, which as you probably know is at altitude and has a temperate climate.

We did go by liner from Manila to Cebu and from Cebu to Davao and Zamboanga in the south, which is now quite dangerous because of the guerilla situation there. Saw flying fish and dolphins - amazing.

My mother's home province is Leyte, which is not far from Cebu. We used to fly to my mother's home town of Hilongos, from Cebu, originally by Dakota! But there are no scheduled flights there any more.

I was back for a few days in Manila in June last year. I went to Tagaytay and Lake Taal - highly recommended if anyone is visiting the Philippines.

          Nine years ago, Manila, Philippines...

A rather porky me! But all eyes will instead be on the ever so cute Lara, who flew out 1 year old and flew home 2 (cheap airline ticket thank goodness!).

This was at my cousin's wedding. That's my aunt's husband in the background. I'm wearing a Barong Tagalog shirt, which is official 'posh' dress for men in the Philippines. It's woven from fabric made from the fibres of pineapple leaves.

Can't resiste Just another... from the Philippines, this time a family outing to the beach in Batangas, June 2008. Can you spot me in amongst all the relatives?

Boy it was hot and wearing a black shirt was a big mistake in the sun
