    Hi Guys

I've just been to the States for a wedding as part of my summer leave. I didn't really plan to do any photo projects while there but Jan and I paid a visit to the Joshua Tree National Park.

The trees themselves tend to grow in a little patch - ie 10 yards sqaure then another then another - they don't seem to clump together like a European woodland & only live at a particular altitude.

I took a few pictures but the picture itself doesnt tell the story of the park itself. It was over 100 while we were there but speaking to the locals was generally much much hotter. What is kinda strange over there is the smog which is still visable out in the desert. One of the view points you can look down onto Palm Springs and see the dust/smog blowing down the valley (I do have a pic if anyone is interested).

We did see a Roadrunner (yes beep beep) but it was too fast for this old coyote lol. I believe the best times to visit are early Spring and Autumn so it's still on the list of places to visit again.

    enjoy - Dave R

    Cheers

Fascinating picture Dave. I remember trying to get one through the coach window on a tour of California. Is it the Joshua tree that drops branches in order to have sufficient water to keep alive?

Hi Dave, I've been to Joshua Tree NP too and agree its very much as you describe, it was also well over 100F and a relief to get back in the car when you got out to take photos. Here are a few of the shots I took

        Joshua trees are kinda photogenic

This was taken at a helicopter re-fuelling station on the way back from the Grand Canyon to Las Vegas.
