Re: School fete - Chinook
Not true Ekkl!
Endurance obviously depends on the fuel loaded, freight being carried, and role being carried out. There are many variables which affect the flight time but a flight of 45 minutes wouldn't normally be worth taking off for.
The current Chinook models in the British fleet can carry roughly 6000lbs of fuel, (roughly 900 gallons) and with this a mission could last between 2.30 to 3 hours. An Extended Range Fuel System (ERFS) is available which can add up to 2400 gallons.

You have flown them Dave?
I was amazed they were letting everyone just walk about in the chinook unattended. I take it all the controls etc are pretty robust, because I certainly wouldnt be happy about it!

Hi Coupekid
Apologies if you have misunderstood - I've flown in them in the rear with body armour and combat helmet and sometimes just for taking a few photo's of the work we were fabricating in Basrah airbase and in Shaiba while in Iraq in 2003
I've included a couple of shots.
The first one is over Shairba log base in South Iraq and the 2nd is one of the side gunners.
My thoughts are with the boys out at the sharp end - good luck to them all.
enjoy - Dave R
Cheers

Here are a few shots.
I think you have done a good job in getting these shots, did you work out what the optimum speed was to photograph them? I imagine that some rotor blade blur is good and if the shutter speed is too fast it freezes them

I wont get political here with my views on what is happening, but suffice to say I have so much respect for all the lads and lasses out there, and echo your luck to them. Here's hoping they wont be out there for too much longer!
I envy your company vehicle by the way!

I was conscious of the same Stephen.
It was pretty overcast, so during the day, and taking still shots I had the ISO at 400, and the aperture wide open, however, when the blades started moving, I dropped it back to 100, and upped the aperture to f8 to force a slower shutter speed (I was on aperture priority) at take off, this equated to a shutter speed of 100, and 200-300 during the fly pass.
