  • Friendly poser

I'd been grabbing a few random snapshots to try something out when I looked down and noticed this little fella standing at my feet, looking up and watching me.

I managed to grab a quick burst of 3 before he took off to eat that chunk of food he'd swiped from the badger and foxes food tray. Luckily he was within the minimum focusing distance of the lens I was using at the time, though only just.

    The cheeky blighter.
Your 'Quick Snap' is as good as any squirrel shot I have seen.

Very good for a quick snap, if I`d tried I probably would have got a blurry tail end as he shot off in the other direction

I got a burst of blank and blurry grassy shots too but I binned those.

I got a total of three acceptable shots - the one you see + a couple of similar ones but with the tip of an ear clipped from the other two pics.

I was using a 300mm prime on the camera at the time as I'd been testing long shots elsewhere. I was on my way back inside and the squirrel suddenly appeared very near my feet as I went indoors so I grabbed what I could, bearing in mind the minimum focusing distance of the lens is about 1.4m so I was lucky to get anything as he was so close to my feet.

That same little fella (very young) fell off the peanut feeder into the bird water bath today. I just missed that shot as I wasn't quick enough. It was hilarious - he got soaked and scampered along the path leaving wet paw prints as he ran.
